Aku baru aja selesai baca Hissy Fit-nya Mary Kay Andrews.
Wuih, asik banget! Mungkin karena di dalam novel setebal 656 halaman tersebut Mary banyak bercerita soal interior design yang memang merupakan salah satu minatku dalam mengisi waktu luang. Dengan menggunakan setting Madison (Georgia) novel ini dibumbui dengan sedikit kisah ‘detektif’ – yaitu saat Keeley Murdock, sang tokoh utama dalam cerita ini yang digambarkan oleh penulisnya sebagai seorang wanita yang mempunya kemampuan men-design yang hebat, bersama-sama dengan sahabat gay-nya yang bernama Austin berusaha menyelidiki keberadaan ibu kandungnya yang menghilang selama hampir dua puluh lima tahun- serta bagaimana fasihnya Mary Kay saat memaparkan usaha Keeley untuk menyulap Mulberry Hill –sebuah kastil tua tahun 1856- menjadi sebuah rumah yang indah dan cantik telah berhasil membuat imajinasiku melayang ...

Terutama pada bagian interior design-nya, tentu saja!
Dan bukan pada imajinasi untuk bisa berkeliling Alabama State bersama seorang pria gay yang mempunyai bisnis toko bunga ...

Satu lagi yang membuatku terkesan akan novel ini adalah Mary Kay selalu menceritakan kemapanan para tokoh-tokohnya tanpa menimbulkan kesan sombong. Misalnya saat dia bercerita tentang Will Mahoney yang rela mengeluarkan ratusan ribu dollar –atau tepatnya dengan dana yang unlimited- hanya untuk merestorasi kastil Mulberry Hill-nya, atau dengan kalimat singkat Mary menulis, “ ... gaun pengantin Vera Wang seharga dua belas ribu dollar dari satin dan sutra krem aku sampirkan di tempat sampah ...” and so on, telah sanggup meninggalkan kesan bahwa money is not an issue bagi para lakon di dalam novel ini, tapi sekali lagi dengan cara yang luwes tanpa harus keliatan snob.
